Heroes

All of us imagine places miles away
Many of us venture far
Sometimes we take chances along the way
They define just who we are

Most of us, we recognize the fears we have
Things that make us lie awake
Hoping our country can shelter us
There’s so very much at stake

Some among us risk their lives for others
Protect the freedoms that we hold
Day and night, they sacrifice
Never asking to be told

You are heroes
We depend upon
You fight for freedom
And wait to have your turn

…to go home

All of us, we have responsibilities
Many things to fill our days
Yet some of us defend our very liberties
They shield us in so many ways

Some of us can see the world beyond ourselves
Standing up for what is right
Often we just move along our way
But sometimes we must stand and fight

Bravery, loyalty
They are more than only words
Go on forever, never say “never“
Even when it really hurts

You are heroes
We depend upon
You fight for freedom
And wait to have your turn

…to go

Home must seem so far away
Nights must feel so long
Love and family, and memories
They… must keep you strong

Most of us, we take for granted every day
That we will return at night
Few of us can understand the risks you face
Of not returning from the fight

Every hour, every day
Never knowing what you’ll find
Trust your brother like no other
No one is left behind

You are heroes
We depend upon
You fight for freedom
And wait to have your turn

…to be home
…to be home

May all you heroes get home safely
