The Middle of the Show

Just as forty-six felt fine
Here comes forty-seven
It’s hard to know if
I’m closer to, my birth or up in heaven

But there are things I surely know
And I can share with you
They say middle age, is all the rage
And I can confirm that’s true

Nothing really good ever comes right away
Man, you gotta give it some time
And that’s so true as people mature
Like a good bottle of wine

Though life frustrates us, even suffocates us
In the end it makes us strong
I’m happy to be in the middle of the show
And I hope it runs real long

Here, in the middle of the show
Doing alright, but got a long way to go
I’ve learned an awful lot, but there’s a lot I don’t know
And that’s alright

Here, in the middle of the show
Trying to stay on track
In life you make your choices, and just move on
And you find, that you never go back

Many guys are having their fun
With their twenty-some and that’s all right
Me I love my woman, and I’m gonna love her
For all the days of my life

But I do admit, I grow nostalgic
For the things I knew when I was young
Never thought a walk in my old neighborhood
Could be, so much damn fun

Here, in the middle of the show
Doing alright, but got a long way to go
I’ve learned an awful lot, but there’s a lot I don’t know
And that’s alright with me

Here, in the middle of the show
Trying to stay on track
In life you make your choices, and just move on
And you find that you never go back

How often we think
About days that are now done
And we hope that
The best is yet to come

We look at our lives
And at all that we’ve been through
And still we find
There’s so much left to do

Well, as they say, my friends
The show it must go on
I feel a little bit older and wiser
And I know that I belong

As I think about the rest of the show
My philosophy just fades away
I’ll stay on this journey, with her ups and downs
To the very last day

Here, in the middle of the show
Doing alright, but got a long way to go
I’ve learned an awful lot, but there’s a lot I don’t know
And that’s alright with me

Here, in the middle of the show
Trying to stay on track
In life you make your choices, and just move on
And you find, well you find, you find
That you never go back

Just as forty-six felt fine
Here comes forty-seven
It’s hard to know if
I’m closer to my birth or up in heaven
